Elaine set the box on the coffee table and began picking out pieces of her mother's life, treasured memories gone bad. "What am I looking for?"

Lucille crept closer to Doug.

"Anything! There must be something it wants you to find or it wouldn't have gone to such measures to protect it." Doug grabbed a nearby straight chair as a shield.

Lucille picked up speed.

Elaine grabbed several bobbles off the top and scattered them across the table. "Doug, it's no use. I don't see anything I haven't seen a hundred times. It's the same old stuff!"

"Keep looking!" He dodged the doll's grasp.

As Lucille lunged, Doug lost his footing and tumbled into the corner. The doll's lopsided head bobbed at him as she gripped his throat and squeezed.

"E—laine!" Doug choked. "Dump…the…contents."

"What?" She looked up briefly. "Oh, my God!"
