Read what the reviewers are saying...
"4.5 Stars!...A great young adult horror tale by baseball novelist Bruce Markusen. The story of Kenny Odom takes the reader on a grand adventure that starts in Kenny's basement where he discovers the body of a vampire and unknowingly sets the creature free, bringing him back into mortal society. With haunted attics, graveyards and the ever scary basement, Markusen manages a fantastical tale that keeps the reader enthralled, waiting impatiently for the next twist in Kenny's saga. Reminiscent of a friday night thriller special, Haunted House of the Vampire makes for the perfect Halloween read."—Angelique Armae, award-winning author of Come The Night
"This story will capture your imagination; it is filled with mysterious secrets that are ready to be unveiled. Can one young boy find the answers to help make right the
wrong that was been done many years before? Mr. Markusen definitely has a flare for storytelling. This typically is not the type of book that I normally read, however, I was compelled to read this book to the end, to see what would happened to Kenny and Victor. Haunted House of the Vampire has a suspenseful ending that will leave you waiting for the next book in the series. This book has broadened my horizons and introduced me to young adult horror type of books. I look forward to reading all of the series when they are written."—Patricia, Coffee Time Romance
"Be careful when choosing friends. For Pete’s sake, don’t go into the basement alone! Vampire stories abound these days, but good ones for young people are harder to find. Bruce Markusen’s book fits the bill nicely. Mr. Markusen is obviously very comfortable writing tales with great appeal to adolescents. I can barely think of a young man who wouldn’t enjoy this book. The violence is minimal, and while there’s a bit of suspense, the book is not overly frightening. McAuliffe and Kenny are both likeable and believable characters...Haunted House of the Vampire should score big with kids. I look forward to more tales from the Coopersville Creeper Series."—Mary, Enchanted In Romance
Read a short excerpt...
"You're too smart for me, young man," the strange man said calmly while letting loose a small laugh. "I can only explain away some of this to a smart man like you…Kenny."
With that last word spoken, Kenny took one slow step backward. He had given the man no personal information, said nothing about his name.
Kenny then looked to his side, feeling something cold and moist wrapped around his waist. It was the man's arm.
How could that be? Having taken that long backward step, Kenny was now at least five or six feet away from the coffin. How could the man, who was still sitting up in the coffin, possibly reach him from that kind of distance?
Kenny looked toward the man, noticing for the first time how long the man's left arm seemed to stretch. Yes, he appeared to be a tall man, but not tall enough to have an arm so long. In fact, Kenny had never seen such an arm on any man, no matter how tall he might have been. An arm that long seemed almost inhuman…
