...She started to look back toward the screen, but found herself caught in Daniel’s intense gaze, like a butterfly in a spider’s web.

Never breaking eye contact, he said, “What is it about Van Buren that fascinates you?”

All she could do was shrug. To be honest, she had no idea. She only knew that, to her, he’d always been Prince Charming, living high on the hill, and she wanted to share his castle with him. She rubbed her knees.

Eileen felt her mouth go dry and her heartbeat accelerate as Daniel removed his glasses and leaned closer, his gaze searching for something in her eyes.
